Battalion Chief Dan Kline said it appears that the driver of the truck had a medical condition that led to the crash, and that he was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Decatur police, firefighters and Ameren Illinois responded the scene at the corner of East Cleveland Avenue. South Main Street (South U.S. Business 51) was closed to traffic at Decatur Street. Sgt. Brian Earles of the Decatur Police Department said officers were sent to the scene at 12:19 p.m. U.S. 51 South was reopened shortly before 2:45 p.m.

A natural gas line in the building was damaged, and the gas was shut off by Ameren, Waite said.

Waite, who has been in business at the location for 40 years, said this is the second time in that period that a vehicle has crashed through the wall of the building. Only one employee was in the business at the time and was nearby, but not hurt, he said.
