Decatur police have released dashcam footage of the crash at U.S. 36 and North 22nd Street that injured a 32-year-old police officer.
The crash happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. Monday. In the video, the police vehicle can be seen traveling south on 22nd Street. As it entered the intersection, the police vehicle had a green light, but was struck by a pickup truck traveling westbound on U.S. 36.
Lt. Shannon Seal previously said the pickup truck driver admitted to using a cellphone before the crash. He was cited for improper use of an electronic communication device while driving, disobeying a traffic signal and driving without a valid driver's license, she said. He refused medical treatment at the scene.
The injured female officer was a passenger in the police vehicle who was treated and released from the hospital Monday night, Seal said. The police vehicle driver, a 26-year-old male officer, suffered a few burns from the airbag deployment in the crash but was not treated at a hospital.
