What should people know about Reflections Academy of Beauty and the programs that it provides?

I really want people to realize that we're not only a school, but also a full-service salon, and we charge at discounted prices. For some reason, a lot of people say, "I didn't realize you were a school, or if you did hair."

We offer financial aid to students, and we do everything that an accredited cosmetology school can do. The students come five days a week; Monday through Thursday is class time, and Friday is time on the (shop) floor.

What sparked your interest in operating a cosmetology school?

I wanted start a place where these people were getting a good education, where we're changing lives and giving people chances that they never had before. I love doing hair. This is something that I wanted to do to give other people options. My passion is to give them the best education.

What's the best thing about what you do?

We get to give people a sense of beauty. The thing about cosmetology is that it makes people feel good about themselves. It's been a really hard road, but since I've been here, it's the best career I've ever had.

Do you have any advice for anyone looking to begin a carer in cosmetology?

I would say that they need to be ready. It's a sacrifice, but it's well worth it. It's a long year (of classes), but it gets better once you put the work in. I'd also say make sure that it's something you want to do. I'm here to push you, and I'm here to help you.

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I haven't been able to do a lot since I've been saving for my business. But I like to hang out with my family members and loved ones, and I like to go thrift shopping. I actually would like to be more involved in the community.

Networking helps everyone, so my plans are to one day be more community involved.
