Mahon would not reveal the name of the deputy during an Effingham County Board meeting this week, but said she will start July 30.
"We approved a new county deputy to start in the middle of this budget year, and we had a testing," Mahon told the county board. "We've got an offer out, and this person has accepted, but I don't want to put the name out yet until it actually happens."
Mahon said the deputy's identity will be revealed at the end of the month, once she starts in the department.
