MATTOON — Mattoon police say a missing Bloomington woman has been located and is safe.
A post on the Mattoon Police Department Facebook page indicates 53-year-old Carmon D. Edwards was found, but did not provide further details.
The Bloomington Police Department reported she was found by a Good Samaritan. Officials with the Illinois State Police District 10 in Pesotum notified Bloomington police that she walked into their headquarters with a Good Samaritan from Mattoon and appears to be in good health.
An abandoned car owned by Edwards was located in Mattoon, police said Wednesday.
The Mattoon Police Department notified Bloomington police about 7:30 a.m. that the car was found, but there were still no signs of Edwards. The Mattoon Police Department, Mattoon Fire Department and Illinois State Police continued to search for her. State police also had a plane conducting an aerial search.
Mattoon police were called to assist Bloomington police after it was discovered that Edwards made a stop at the Hardee's in Mattoon on Tuesday morning, said Jason Taylor, Mattoon Police Department chief.
Edwards, who may be suffering from a recent cognitive decline, was reported missing on Monday. She had been last seen in Bloomington about 11 a.m. Christmas morning, police said.
