BLUFF CITY — A 22-year-old man was airlifted to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield after a single-vehicle crash in Fayette County on Sunday, Illinois State Police said.

Initial investigation shows that the driver, Eric C. Gurtner of Brownstown, was traveling south on Fayette County Road 1200 East shortly before 4 p.m. and lost control near County Road 1900 North, just north of Bluff City, police said.

His 2010 Chevy Camaro left the roadway, crossed the ditch and struck an embankment, causing the car to go airborne and Gurtner to be ejected. The car overturned and came to rest on a pasture fence, police said. There were no passengers.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation continues, police said.
