Walmart pickup tower

DECATUR — Walmart Supercenter management at the 4625 E. Maryland St. store in Decatur has installed the Pickup Tower.

The high-tech appliance is a 16-foot structure similar to a vending machine, according to a statement from the company. Customers' online orders can be filled in less than a minute.

Customers can order products online and select "pickup" as an option and the items will be available the Pickup Tower. Customers scan the items' bar code and then leave.

The Decatur store is one of 22 Walmart locations across the state to add a Pickup Tower. It is part of the company's estimated $87.5 million remodeling and expansion plans.

“The Pickup Tower is another way for Decatur customers to save time and shop whenever, however and wherever they want,” Decatur Store Manager Marvin Ford said in a statement. “We cannot wait for shoppers to try this new innovation that is not only convenient, but easy to use.”
