Authorities say a fire at the historic Haley Mansion in Joliet caused $1.25 million in damage. WGN-TV reports that the fire broke out Wednesday. The cause is still under investigation, but the Joliet Fire Department says the fire was accidental and began on the mansion's third floor. No one was in the mansion at the time, and no one was hurt. The first and second floors sustained water damage but should be able to be repaired. Patrick Columbus Haley and his wife, Mary Anastasia Darcy, built the mansion in in 1891. Construction took around two years.

Red Bull powertrains and Ford will partner on the development of a hybrid power unit that will supply engines to both Red Bull and AlphaTauri when new F1 regulations begin in 2026. Officials have identified the pilot who was killed when his plane crashed on the south side of Indianapolis last month. WXIN-TV reported Friday that the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the pilot on Thursday as 20-year-old Shane Pennington II. National Transportation Safety Board findings released Friday identified Pennington's plane as a Cirrus SR20. An examination of the plane revealed no mechanical problems. The plane crashed near some railroad tracks in a residential area on the afternoon of Jan. 24 after leaving the Indianapolis Executive Airport. Pennington was the lone occupant.
In the South Dakota Senate, a group of far-right Republican lawmakers are looking to challenge the establishment by pushing for hardline stands on social issues. Most recently, one state senator was suspended, then reinstated and censured, after she allegedly harassed an aide because the aide had vaccinated her child. Senate leaders have called that situation a personnel issue and have said little about it. But it's a sign of growing tensions within the GOP.
