CHAMPAIGN — Illinois Supreme Court Justice Rita Garman said the application process has begun for a vacancy in the Sixth Judicial Circuit, which includes Macon County.
In a news release Wednesday, the court said Resident Judge Michael Q. Jones of Champaign will retire on March 2, 2018. Jones has been a resident judge since 2000.
Under the Illinois Constitution, judicial vacancies are filled by Supreme Court appointment, following an application process.
The person appointed to fill the vacancy will serve until the first Monday in December following the November 2020 election, the news release said.
The Sixth Judicial Circuit includes Champaign, DeWitt, Douglas, Macon, Moultrie and Piatt Counties.
