DECATUR — A village administrator from the Chicago area has been named deputy city manager for Decatur, it was announced Friday.

Jon Kindseth, the current administrator in Beach Park in Lake County, will start Sept. 30.

“His talents and skill sets will complement those of our current Decatur department heads,” said City Manager Scot Wrighton in a statement announcing the hire. “I am confident he will make a great contribution to the future of the city.”

Kindseth has worked in Illinois local government and management for more than a decade and has a master’s degree in urban public administration from Northern Illinois University. In Beach Park, he has experience with projects related to neighborhood revitalization, rental registration programs and intergovernmental cooperation, the statement said.

Salary information was not immediately available.

The position has been vacant since Billy Tyus was named assistant city manager in Bloomington early this year.
