ARTHUR -- Tommy Wayne Cearlock, 85, of Arthur, died at 6:25 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Southern Baptist Church of Arthur with Pastors Doug Davis and Dave Babb officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery with military rites accorded. Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the church and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday. Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Tommy was born October 14, 1932 in Vandalia, the son of Henry and Treva Harrison Cearlock. He married Gayle McDowell in Vandalia on September 13, 1952; she survives.
Besides his wife Gayle of Arthur, he is survived by his sons, Jerry (Linda) Cearlock of Paris; Randy (Janet) Cearlock of Carmel, Indiana; daughter, Cathy (Bruce) Slover of Creal Springs, IL; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandsons; and 4 great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers.
Tommy was a letter carrier for the postal service for 20 years and a mechanic and service manager for Collins-Daugherty in Arthur. He was a 50-year member of the Southern Baptist Church of Arthur, where he served on the building committee, and the Arthur VFW. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War where his unit was awarded a citation for heroism.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on Fords, Jeeps, and Allis Chalmers tractors.
