DECATUR --Deana Kay Harding, 67, of Danvers, IL formerly of Decatur, IL passed away February 18, 2019 at OSF St. Joseph Hospital in Bloomington, IL.
Deana was born October 3, 1951 daughter of C. Dean and Betty L. Keithley. Deana had been a previous member of Summit Avenue Baptist Church through her early adult life. Deana graduated from Decatur Eisenhower High School, Class of 1969, and shortly thereafter married Charlie V. DeBose and together they brought their daughter Stephanie Lynn into their lives. In 1980, Deana married Harold R. Harding (Russ) and at that time became a loving “Deana” (step mom) to Angela Dawn and Jamie Ross Harding. As years progressed she became “Grandma Deana” to 8 wonderful, loveable grandchildren and she was especially proud to be “Grandma Deana” to many of their friends as well.
Deana excelled at customer service in her employment ventures throughout her life. She first worked at Cloyd’s Market before being that smiling-friendly face to greet you at Parkwood Cleaners on East Wood and Classic Cleaners on North Main Streets. She was proud to join Cub Foods, then owned by Robert (Bob) Johnston, as the front-end service manager meeting and greeting customers for over 16 years before moving to Florida. Missing family and especially her grandchildren she and Russ returned to Illinois first living in Heyworth and ultimately residing in Danvers. She finished her employment life at SC2 Inc, of Peoria, in sequencing/assembly, inventory control, and parts packaging for 13 years at their Normal facility. Deana was revered by always “doing her best” no matter what was asked.
Deana enjoyed the beach with family, fresh air inhaled from the back of a Harley riding with Russ for a planned short ride to breakfast culminating into an afternoon beer stop prior to heading home. She also enjoyed longer trips to Colorado for the vistas and mountains or a blues trip to Memphis. Deana also thoroughly enjoyed outdoor gardening (both floral and vegetable). Deana was a wonderful cook, specifically preparing requests by her family and appreciated by her grandchildren and their friends for her homemade salsa, chicken pot pie or key lime dessert!
She is survived by her husband Russ, of 39 years; her children Stephanie Hines of Vandalia, IL, Angela (Jerry) Oxley of Bradenton, FL, and Jamie (Kris) Harding of Bloomington, IL; grandchildren Zack and Austin Hines, Jordan Romager; Noah, Lauren and Joshua Oxley; and Kaleb and Emma Harding; mother Betty L. Keithley, El Paso, IL; brothers Dennis (Becky) Keithley of Washington, MO; Dale (Tammie) Keithley of Cotati, CA; several nieces and nephews; and cherished life-long friends Larry & Jean Wadkins. She will also be sorely missed by her pet family; Morgan her Bloodhound, Cinnamon her rescue dog, and finally BiYou her McCaw parrot.
Deana was preceded in death by her father C. Dean Keithley and brother Douglas Keithley.
Family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of OSF St. Joseph’s Hospital, for their compassion and respectful care of Deana during this tragic time in our lives. We also wish to express a heartfelt thank you to Taylor of the Gift of Hope Organ Donor Program for guiding us through the process of donation to fulfill Deana’s dream.
Our dearest Deana may you go in peace and rest now with God’s love. You deserve it.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, February 23, 2019, with visitation from 9:30-11 am, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Graveside burial will be at Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek, IL immediately following services.
