Rick was born on December 19, 1954 in Monticello, IL. a son of Edgar “Red” and Shirley Miles Durbin. He married Patty Lash on December 22, 1973 in Bement, IL. and she survives of Bement. Also surviving is his mother; Shirley Durbin of Bement, IL., brother; David Durbin of Bement, IL., also by 3 sister-in-laws and their husbands and several nieces and nephews and great-niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his father Edgar “Red” Durbin.

Rick and Patty met in high school and dated for a year and a half before getting married on December 22, 1973. They would have been married for 44 years this year. Because they never had any children, sharing their life together they had a unique relationship. They had quantity and quality of time together. There was never a dull moment and all that knew him, knew he was quite the prankster, and was a great story teller. He loved to joke around and got a kick out of humoring family and friends.

Rick had a strong work ethic and was dedicated to serving his clients throughout the state of Illinois. Rick operated Durbin excavation, demolishion, tree and crane service along with his brother David, and his latest employee Brad Rexroad.

Rick and Patti's favorite past time was dancing, they frequented many dance clubs throughout. On their surprise 25th anniversary hosted by family and friends, they danced to “Jump, Jive and Wail”, and unbeknownest to them they cleared the dance floor. Rick and Patty had a inner circle of friends to play several different card games and pictionary once a month.

Rick was diagnosed with lung cancer in October of 2010 and his difficult journey of chemo and radiation to quite a toll on him.

He was in remission for 5 years until it came back. He opted to do immunotherapy. The drug had significantly decreased the size of the mass and despite the success of the treatment, Rick had a lot of debilitating side effects. As time went on, he never regained his strength and energy so he decided to have hospice come in. His last 2 days of around the clock care with the help of Melanie Stevens, whom is married to Rick's long time childhood friend, Bob Stevens, came and helped Patty through his final hours of his passing.

Patty wants to thank his family, friends, Brad Rexroad, Dr. Egner, Dr. Sarma, and Carle Hospice nurses for all the love and care that he received. Until we meet again my love, Patty.
