John David Hunt, 83, of Clinton, Iowa, formerly of Decatur, passed away Friday, August 9, 2019, at West Wing Place in DeWitt, Iowa.
John was born January 14, 1936, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Lawrence and Opal (Meek) Hunt. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. John was a machinist at A.E. Staley retiring after thirty-six years of service. He enjoyed camping and was a winter Texan for twenty years. John married Sharron Hopkins April 28, 1957. She preceded him in death August 8, 1994. He then married Betty Mull August 14, 1996.
John is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Patty (Tom) Ryan and Debra “Debbie” Hunt; stepchildren, Terry, Robert, and Gary Mull and Patty (Roger) Petersen; granddaughters, Melissa Ryan and Samantha (Kannan) Kannan; stepgrandchildren, Michelle Brown and Michael (Barbara) Ryan; seven stepgrandchildren, twenty-three stepgreat-grandchildren, and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; brother, Everett Hunt; and sister, Rosetta Angell.
Services to celebrate John’s life will be 11 AM Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel in Decatur. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow in Macon County Memorial Park.
