HAMMOND — It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph O. Daugherty, Sr., of Hammond, IL., announces his passing, on Monday, June 10, 2019, at the age of 77.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at the Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. The Pastor James R. Allison will officiate. Burial with military rites from the Albert Parker American Legion Post #620, Bement, will be in the Bement Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post #5346, 108 E. Livingston, Monticello, IL. 61856 or the Albert Parker American Legion Post #620, Bement, IL.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his 3 children; Joseph O. Jr., (Stacey) of Fairfield, IA., Jolyn of Highland Park, IL., and John (Rebecca) of Waukegan, IL. He will also be fondly remembered by his 8 grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Kristen, Aidan and Kara Daugherty of Fairfield, IA., Patrick Fakhari of Highland Park, IL., and Connor, Ian, Sean Daugherty of Waukegan, IL. He will be dearly missed by his girlfriend; Peggy Young of Monticello, IL. He is also survived by his brother; James Daugherty (Nancy) of Springfield, IL., and sister; Mary Daugherty Burns (Patrick) of Springfield, IL.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents.

Joseph O. Daugherty, Sr., was born on May 15, 1942, in Decatur, IL., to Joseph S. and Ruth (Ponder) Daugherty. He graduated from Bement High School in 1960. He received a B.S., in Accounting in 1966 and an M.B.A from Eastern Illinois University in 1971. He received the Senior Accounting award in 1966. In 1970, Joe was married to Joann Mette of Trimble, IL.; they later divorced.

Joe served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970 as Petty Officer, First Class and was stationed at the New York Naval Shipyard and Naval Station Norfolk and served aboard the Destroyer USS Harold J. Ellison DD-864. He was employed at Firestone, Gauger and Diehl, Burrows Office Equipment, Illinois Office of Education, before returning to Piatt County Illinois to take up farming the family farm in 1978. He served on the Piatt County Farm Bureau Board of Directors.
