DECATUR -- Vale Edward Newman, 93, of Decatur, IL passed away December 6, 2018, at Generations at McKinley Court.
Vale was born February 10, 1925 in Stewardson, IL, the son of, Edward Albert and Erma Forest (McFadden) Newman.
Vale was a proud veteran of the US Army, attaining the rank of SSGT. He served during WWII in the South West Pacific Theater on the islands of Saipan and Peleliu.
On July 6, 1947, he married Betty Jo Ann Brock in Decatur, IL at Riverside Baptist Church.
After he had left military service, Vale was employed with A.E. Staley, the Wabash Railroad and later became a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service, retiring after 44 years of service. He then served 15 years with the Decatur Park District.
Vale was an active member of the Riverside Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family, gardening and working in his yard.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo; children, Duane Newman (Sharen) of Lake Ann, MI, Dennis Newman (Marla) of Bloomington, IL, Dean Newman (Carol) of Kansas, MO; grandchildren, Stephanie Sunday, Kristin Call, Bradley Newman, Ryan Newman, Aaron Newman, Jennifer Council, Philip Newman, Katherine Oliver and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Verlin Newman and one grandson, Nathan Newman.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, December 10, 2018 at Riverside Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 AM, Monday, December 10, 2018 at the church. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
