Richard Eugene Vaughn

DECATUR — Richard “Dick” Eugene Vaughn passed away on Tuesday June 25, 2019 at his residence in Decatur, Illinois.

Dick was born April 1, 1945, in Decatur, Illinois. He was the son of Robert and Charlotte (Rupert) Vaughn. He retained many happy memories of his childhood playing with his three siblings. He attended Eisenhower High School where he met his wife of 51 years, Ricki (Tarrant) Vaughn. In 1962, at the age 17, he began working alongside with his father at Rupert's Sport Shop. He discovered he had a gift to connect with people and loved what he was doing. He eventually became the 4th generation owner of Rupert's and worked there until 2015. Dick and Ricki were married June 16, 1968, at Grace Methodist Church. They were residents of Decatur, IL, all of their lives, where they raised their family.

Dick was a member of Decatur Gun Club and Warrensburg Gun Club. He enjoyed trap shooting with his father and friends. He was a distinguished member of the NRA, American Trap Shooter Association, and Ducks Unlimited. Ricki and Dick loved to travel and had joyful memories of many trips to Minnesota and Florida. They made many friends along the way. They enjoyed fishing, golfing, and walking the beach together. An avid hunter, Dick enjoyed years of duck hunting with his son and friends. He also was an active member of Lampstand Church where he attended the Great Banquet. His faith grew stronger in the last several years.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte and Robert Vaughn, and his brother, Gary Vaughn.

Dick is survived by his wife, Ricki Vaughn of Decatur IL; his sisters Nancy Schwalbe of Mission Viejo, CA, Susan Haney of Decatur, IL; his brothers in-law Bruce (Belva) Tarrant of MO, Sterling (Christina) Tarrant of TX; and his children, Dennis Vaughn, daughter-in-law Angie Vaughn, Rebecca Tierney, son-in-law Matthew Tierney; and his 7 grandchildren, Megan Vaughn, Ali Vaughn, Mia Vaughn, Ashtyn Tierney, Aidan Tierney, Tresten Tierney, Lexington Tierney; and his 7 nieces and nephews.

Dick leaves a legacy of devotion and love of family that his family embraced and will strive to perpetuate for generations to come.

The family is having visitation service Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur, IL. Services to celebrate Dick's life will be Wednesday, July 3, 2019, 10 a.m. at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home. To follow the service, burial will take place at Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's name may be made to Lampstand Church.
