You may notice some new bylines in your Herald & Review soon.
We’ll be publishing coverage of state government by a new service, Capitol News Illinois, starting Jan. 28.
They’ll be covering the General Assembly, the Pritzker administration and other news out of Springfield for us and other Illinois Press Association members. The service is overseen by the Illinois Press Foundation.
The reporting team in Springfield will include:
- Rebecca Anzel, who previously reported from the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin’s statehouse bureau
- Peter Hancock, statehouse reporter for the Lawrence Journal-World in Kansas
- Jerry Nowicki, former editor of the LeRoy Farmer City Press
Intern Grant Morgan also will be contributing.
I met with Illinois Press Foundation Director Jeff Rogers late last year to talk about this project, and I’m excited about ramping up our coverage of state government.

Come talk with the Herald & Review
We have two upcoming reader engagement events:
Both are a chance to talk with the reporters, editors and photographers who bring you the news each day, and share ideas and suggestions about the jobs we're doing.
We hope you can attend.
Speaking of which, I’m also extending an invitation to any community groups or educators who are looking for guest speakers. Herald & Review staffers can talk about the business, how newsrooms work and what journalism is all about.
If you're interested, please reach out.
And thanks for reading.
