In response to the article highlighting the shortage of blood at the Red Cross, I would like to take the time to promote a volunteer opportunity for those who are afraid of needles, or just simply cannot give blood. The volunteer position is called a "Blood Donor Ambassador," and what this individual is responsible for includes: Welcoming and greeting donors, assisting with the intake process, escorting donors, and answering questions.
Blood drives are held every Tuesday at the Decatur Red Cross office from noon to 6 p.m., so shifts can be flexible to meet the needs of the volunteer. Ages 13 and older can volunteer. For more information, or to schedule a meeting, please contact volunteer recruiter Jared Kaylor at 217-610-8004 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
