The most important battle in our country cannot be among ourselves. It must be the fight to protect and defend the sanctity of our elections. We owe it to all future generations to ensure that our republic survives. National intelligence agencies and special counsel Robert Mueller agree. Russia and other foreign adversaries are continuing efforts to subvert/influence our elections and thereby the foundation of our democratic society.

The ongoing threat of Russian/foreign influence to our elections is arguably the biggest threat our shining city on the hill has faced. This cannot simply be about our disagreements toward our current president, various candidates, elected officials or the political parties they represent. We must look past our divisions that have been deliberately exploited by foreign adversaries and move forward, bound by the duty to protect ourselves from nations that have an interest in seeing our democracy fail. When we let them divide us, they win and our country loses.

This is a slow chess game of strategy and conquest by the Russians. We must focus on the long term threat to our elections, not simply on what is right and wrong with our current president. This is bigger than all of us. Russia’s strategy depends on our loss of focus from their most prized conquest and our most important and cherished entity, our democratic society.

The domestic issues we must resolve in order to form a more perfect union can only be tackled if our democracy survives. We are the strongest, most capable nation in the world. We must rise up together as Americans to recognize this modern weaponization of our elections. It is our duty to defend our principles for which so many Americans have sacrificed and died. Losing this war against the fabric of our democracy will cost us everything.
