In the past, almost all politicians were for a wall or fencing along the border. As late as 2013, the Senate Compromise Immigration bill called for completing the 700 miles of fencing envisioned in the 2006 law. Every Senate Democrat at the time voted for the bill, including Nancy Pelosi. But now Democrats oppose any wall or fencing.
According to talking points, a wall is 1. ineffective, 2. too expensive, and 3. immoral. Pelosi now even says the wall is "immoral," but they never say on what grounds is it "immoral." Israel's wall has virtually ended Palestinian terrorism. Do Democrats believe Israel's wall is immoral? The wall is effective.
Donald Vitielle, chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, said agents do want a wall. He said, "Our agents and officers have decades of experience, and know their operational needs." Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, said border agents want a wall and it is effective. But of course Nancy knows more about what border patrol agents need than they do, so she thinks.
Sheriff Leon Wilmot of Arizona's Yuma County, says "In 2006 workers replaced existing barriers with 126 miles of primary and secondary fencing. The results have been amazing. In 2005, Border Patrol agents arrested 138,438 illegal immigrants in the Yuma sector. By 2016, apprehensions fell to just 14,170, Because of border security, a region besieged by chaos in now a region of tranquility. Walls and fencing work.
In the face of clear evidence that walls work, why are Democrats against any wall or fencing? Because they hate Trump and don't want him to succeed. Evidence of this is seen in a letter to the editor where the writer called the president "a sociopathic ignoramus" and a threat to "civilization." Hate makes intelligent people say stupid things.
