Age: 29

Family: Husband, Dwayne, and doggy, Kirby.

Current position/responsibilities: I am the digital marketing and communications specialist for Hickory Point Bank. Simply put, I market our brand using technology platforms. I also work as the head cheerleading coach for Millikin University. I mentor a group of talented athletes that in return keep me young.

What do you like best about what you do? I love working for companies of integrity that give back to our community. Millikin University and Hickory Point Bank are both local establishments that give back in so many ways. Their generosity is making a positive impact in our community and I’m so grateful to be a part of that. So, the part I love most about what I do is making a difference.

What do you like best about working or living in the community? Decatur will always be “home”. I love that no matter what the future brings, I’ll always fly high with the Johns Hill Eagles and salute the MacArthur Generals. The Decatur Civic Center will always bring back years of dance recital memories with Debbie’s Dance Studio and driving by the Graceland ball diamonds will always make me think of years of summer ball on Jack Haskell’s team. The waitress will know what I want when I order a “cheese toasty” and Monical’s pizza will always be better dipped in French dressing. I’ll always need a new outfit for the Decatur Celebration and absolutely NO restaurant will ever compare to a Krekel’s burger with lemon ice-cream and red sprinkles. Dorothy said it best when she said, “There’s no place like home.” Decatur will always be home and that’s what I love.

What should the community be doing to attract more young people to live and work in the Decatur area? There are so many meaningful programs and organizations in Decatur that have made a positive impact in our community. I think if people continue to support and volunteer their time for the organizations that are closest and most meaningful to them, positive impacts will follow. One organization that I’m involved in is Swing for Homes. Swing for Homes is an organization that hosts a Wiffle Ball Tournament and donates all of the profits made from the tournament to support those in need of housing.

Who is the person who has had the biggest influence on you and why? There have been so many amazing people throughout my life that have made a difference in who I am today. Coaches, teachers, bosses, friends and family. However, these are the few people at the top of my list: My mother, who is my hero. She is inclusive of all, hardworking, creative and impossibly kind. My father, for whom I owe my imagination and is a constant reminder that guardian angels are real. My siblings, who have all played a part in raising their little sister and going along with her crazy ideas. Karla Miller, my boss, who never laughs at me when I present her an out-of-the-box idea and sometimes even makes them happen. The Hurley Family, who has been a second family to me. And last, but certainly not least, my husband, who makes me laugh each and every day.

My “I’d rather be …” bumper sticker would read: I’d rather be a mermaid.” Because I could swim with the dolphins and have good hair days every day.

What is your favorite stress reliever? The beach makes me happy.

What is your favorite movie? “The Sandlot”.

What is your favorite phone app? Sing Karaoke by Smule.

Quote to live by: “Hakuna Matata.”

If you were a fictional character, which one would you be? Why? Santa Claus, so I could bring everyone the gifts they needed most. I would spread peace, love and holiday cheer. Also, I could travel the world and eat a lot of cookies.
