Saddler named player of the week
DECATUR — Millikin senior guard Yanni Saddler was selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
A native of Peoria Heights and a Macomb High graduate, Saddler was the leading scorer in a 79-72 win at Elmhurst on Saturday. She scored a game-high 30 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and was 12-of-14 from the free throw line. Saddler also added four rebounds, four steals and three assists against the Bluejays, which was Millikin's only contest last week.
Jennings named wrestler of the week
DECATUR — Millikin senior Keajion Jennings was selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Wrestler of the Week.
A native of O'Fallon, Jennings won the 197-pound title at Wheaton's Pete Willson Invitational held Friday and Saturday. He finished 5-0 including two pins and one technical fall, and also picked up the 100th win of his collegiate career. Jennings now has 103 career victories.
Jennings started the weekend with a 16-0 technical fall over Olivet's Jacob Harvel, followed by a fall at 3:56 against Ferrum's Antavian Leary. Jennings won his quarterfinal match by fall at 5:25 over Thomas More's James Canilgia, and earned an injury default against Mount St. Joseph's Antonio McCloud in the semifinals. Jennings won the title with a 9-7 victory over North Central's Tyler Vittal, moving his individual record to 21-1 on the season.
IBCA honoring Monticello hoops
MONTICELLO — The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association will honor Monticello High School for its 1,500th boys basketball win, which occurred Nov. 27, 2012, in a home game in Robert and Dorothy Miller Gym against Rantoul.
The ceremony will take place before the Sages go to their locker room at halftime of the Chillicothe Illinois Valley Central game on Friday. All former coaches and players will be invited on the floor for the ceremony. Currently, the Sages have 1,635 wins.
ASA softball conference on April 13
DECATUR — The Illinois ASA Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on April 13 at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel.
