The Millikin women's basketball team picked up a conference road win at Elmhurst College, 79-72, on Saturday. 

Millikin led 22-16 after one quarter before the Bluejays took control of the game. Elmhurst led 44-33 at halftime and 60-52 after three quarters. Millikin rallied in the fourth quarter outscoring Elmhurst 27-12.

Millikin's Yanni Saddler's basket and free throw gave the Big Blue the lead at 63-62 with seven minutes remaining. Jordan Hildebrand would convert the basket and one to push Millikin's lead out to 66-62 with 5:49 left in the game. The Big Blue would lead the rest of the game and held off the Bluejays going 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the final three minutes.

Millikin shot 42 percent from the field and went only 3-for-12 from 3-point range. The Big Blue had a major advantage at the free throw stripe going 28-for-37 which was the result of 29 Elmhurst fouls.

Elmhurst shot 47 percent from the field and went 1-for-4 from 3-point range. The Bluejays were 12-for-17 from the free-throw line.

Saddler led Millikin with 30 points including going 12-for-14 from the free throw line. Hildebrand had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Aubrey Staton scored 12 points and had nine rebounds. Briana Anthony scored 11 points with four assists.

Kellee Clay led Elmhurst (8-11, 4-6 CCIW) with 19 points.

The Big Blue (6-13, 2-8 CCIW) host North Central on January 30.

Big Blue men lose at Elmhurst

DECATUR -- The Millikin men's basketball team lost at Elmhurst College 74-67 Saturday. 

Elmhurst scored the opening basket and the Big Blue tied the game at 2-2, but Elmhurst went ahead 4-2 and would never trail in the game. The Bluejays lead 35-30 at halftime.

Both teams shot 48 percent from the field, but the Bluejays made two more baskets. Millikin shot 7-for-18 (39 percent) from 3-point range while Elmhurst hit on 8-for-24 (33 percent) from beyond the arc. Millikin won the rebounding battle 37-25, but the Big Blue were hurt by 20 turnovers.

Elijah Henry led Millikin (10-9, 4-7 CCIW) with 19 points and six rebounds. Calvin Fisher added 12 points followed by Jack Marinko with 11. Jordan Cunningham had a team-high 11 rebounds along with four points.

Ryan Patton led Elmhurst (10-9, 5-5 CCIW) with 14 points followed by Jake Rhode with 13. Jeremy Ireland scored 12 points and had nine rebounds.

The Big Blue play at Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.
