DECATUR — The Millikin women's basketball team might have gotten off to a difficult start under new coach Olivia Lett, but the Big Blue finished 2018 strong.
On Sunday, Millikin won its third straight game, defeating Monmouth College 81-70.
The game was tight, with 13 ties and 13 lead changes. The Big Blue began to pull away in the final seconds of the third quarter on baskets by Briana Anthony and Aubrey Staton. Monmouth (9-2) would never get closer than four points in the final period and Millikin (5-8) led by 10 with three minutes left to play.
Millikin had four players score in double figures. Jordan Hildebrand led the way with 26 points and five rebounds. She had 15 points in the first half. Yanni Saddler added 17 points.
Shayne Smith led Monmouth with 29 points followed by Carley Turnbull with 15.

Millikin men 84, University of Chicago 78
CHICAGO — Millikin trailed by eight with 18 minutes left in the game before mounting a comeback. The Big Blue went on a 19-6 run and lead 55-50 with 11:25 remaining on a three-pointer by Jack Marinko.
A Zach Fisher 3-pointer gave the Big Blue (7-5) a 69-59 advantage with 6:14 remaining in the game, but Chicago (7-4) came back to tie the game 74-74 with 2:05 left to play. Fisher then scored Millikin's next six points to give the Big Blue some breathing room at 80-76 with just over one minute remaining.
Fisher led the Big Blue with 30 points and six rebounds. DaVante Harrell added 14 points and a team high nine rebounds.
