DECATUR -- The Millikin women's basketball team won its third straight game defeating Carroll University 71-59 on Saturday at the Griswold Center.

The Big Blue fell behind early trailing 10-4 four minutes into the game. Millikin then went on a 14-5 run to close out the first quarter with an 18-15 advantage. Millikin controlled the second quarter and went into the locker room at halftime up 35-24. The Big Blue held its biggest lead of the game at 16 in the third quarter and had a 54-40 advantage at the end of three quarters.

Millikin shot 41 percent from the field (26-for-64) and went 10-for-21 (48 percent) from 3-point range. Carroll made 39 percent from the field (26-for-66) and went 3-for-17 (18 percent) from 3-point range. Carroll won the rebounding battle 42-38.

Yanni Saddler led Millikin (8-13, 4-8 CCIW) with 21 points followed by Aubrey Station with 15. Jordan Hildebrand had a double double with 14 points and a team high 11 rebounds.

Sierra Grubor led Carroll (9-13, 4-9) with 21 points followed by Kayla Stefka with 18.

The Big Blue play at Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Millikin men's basketball team lost 83-80 to Carroll University on Saturday at the Griswold Center.

Millikin jumped out to an early lead and a Calvin Fisher layup gave Millikin an 6-2 advantage four minutes into the game. Carroll responded and built a 41-32 advantage at halftime. Millikin would stay close in the second half pulling to within two points on four different occasions. Freshman Jack Marinko's three-pointer pulled Millikin to 77-75 with 3:25 left in the game. Carroll's Troy Howat answered with his own three to push the lead back to five. The Big Blue cut it to 83-80 on a Marinko bucket with 1:25 left in the game, but could never convert on the offensive end to pull any closer.

Millikin shot 57 percent (28-49) from the field and went 7-for-17 (41 percent) from 3-point range. Carroll's 3-point shooting was a major factor in the game. The Pioneers shot 58 percent (30-for-52) from the field and went 11-for-21 (52 percent) from beyond the arc.

Elijah Henry led Millikin (10-11, 4-9 CCIW) with 22 points. Calvin Fisher added 18 points and Marinko scored 17.

Nick Penny led Carthage (9-13, 5-8 CCIW) with 26 points followed by Howat with 20. Howat was 6-8 from 3-point range including going 4-for-4 in the first half.

With three games remaining in the regular season, Millikin's next game is Saturday at nationally ranked Augustana.
