CHICAGO — Former Bears linebacker Lance Briggs is one of 122 modern-era player nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2020.
The list, released Thursday, includes only players whose careers ended less than 25 seasons ago.
Briggs was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection in 12 seasons with the Bears (2003-14). A third-round draft pick in 2003, he had 16 interceptions, 16 forced fumbles, six return touchdowns, 15 sacks and 1,174 tackles in 173 games in that span.
He was ranked 29th on the Tribune's list of the 100 best Bears players of all time.
Center Olin Kreutz, who was No. 26 on the Tribune's list, is among the other former Bears on the list of nominees.
Briggs reacted to the news on Twitter on Thursday afternoon with a photo of a gold jacket.
The group will be reduced to 25 semifinalists in November and 15 finalists in early January. The finalists will be presented to the 48-member selection committee the day before the Super Bowl.
The Hall of Fame will have a special Centennial Class for the NFL's 100th season consisting of five modern-era players, 10 seniors, three contributors and two coaches.
