DECATUR — The smell of grilled pork chops, the sight of fans lining the field, the sound of pads colliding and the crowd roaring when a runner breaks free — football Fridays are back.
The Illinois High School Association football season begins tonight with every team in the state dreaming of playing for the championship in DeKalb the weekend after Thanksgiving. The Herald & Review sports staff will be at area football fields to chronicle how the season plays out.
Tonight, H&R reporters will be at three games: Joey Wagner will be covering defending Class 2A runner-up Maroa-Forsyth's game against New Berlin. For live updates, follow @mrwagner25 on Twitter. Bill Welt (@BillWelt) will be in Decatur for LSA, coming off its first eight-win season, hosting Cumberland. Aren Dow (@arendow) will be on hand in Pawnee as Shelbyville opens its season trying to build on last year's Class 2A semifinal run.
