BLOOMINGTON — Twelve Herald & Review-area graduating seniors will take the football field during the 45th annual Illinois High School Shrine Game on Saturday, June 15 at Tucci Stadium on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. Kickoff will be at 11 a.m.
MacArthur's Derrick Taylor, who will play at Robert Morris University next season, will suit up at inside linebacker for the East Team. Also on the East Team are Monticello's Alek Bundy and Braden Snyder, who both helped the Sages capture the Class 3A state championship last season. Snyder be under center at quarterback and Bundy will play as a safety.
Maroa-Forsyth's lineman Lane Ohlemeyer and Tuscola's CJ Picazo will feature on the East Team's offensive line while the defense includes Warrensburg-Latham's Will Kent (outside linebacker), Newton's Teddy Frichtl (defensive line) and Connor Bierman (safety.)
Joining Snyder at quarterback for the East is Taylorville's Brandon Odam, who will play at the University of Central Missouri next season. A big target for him will be his Tornadoes' teammate Justin Wright (wide receiver), who will be playing for St. Ambrose University next season. Also on the East offense are Argenta-Oreana's Makhi Stanley (running back) and Tuscola's Cade Kresin (kicker).
The event brings together top senior players in an all-star game to raise money for Shriners Hospital for Children and is co-sponcered by the Illinois Coaches Association and the Shriners of Illinois. Last year's event raised $33,000 and Warrensburg-Latham's Diondre Lewis was named the offensive MVP for the East Team.
