FIRST TEAM

F — Camryn Wagner, Sr., St. Teresa

Wagner is the Herald & Review’s Area Girls Soccer Player of the Year for the third straight season. This year, she was selected to the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association All-State team after scoring 27 goals and adding six assists. She had five hat tricks in leading the Bulldogs to the super-sectionals and their best finish in program history.

F — Faith Niebrugge, Fr., Mattoon

The Green Wave freshman exploded on the scene by setting a school record with 35 goals. Thanks to Niebrugge’s offense, Mattoon finished with a school-best 16-7-2 record and advanced to the sectional semifinals.

F — Mia Maupin, Sr., Monticello

Maupin scored a school-record 31 goals, breaking her previous record of 28 set last year. She is the Sages’ all-time leading scorer with 95 goals. An opposing coach said of Maupin: “Speed and tenacity is her game. She’s a capable finisher but her pursuit of the ball makes her a nightmare to play against.”

MF — Maya Caltry, Sr., Charleston

Caltry caused problems for opposing defenses. She was an all-sectional player for the second straight year and is a three-time all-Apollo Conference selection. Caltry will continue her career at DePauw University next season.

MF — Megan Leighton, Sr., Warrensburg-Latham/Maroa-Forsyth

Leighton's field vision and distribution skills were key for the Cardinals and she found balance in her offensive game with 16 goals and 14 assists. Leighton is the program's career assist leader with 51.

MF — Brenna Frommelt, So., Mount Zion

A first-team All-Apollo Conference selection, Frommelt had 28 goals and five assists. "She is a super-talented young player who carried the offensive load for them this year. We can expect big things from her in the future," said an opposing coach.

MF — Lauryn Pugh, Sr., St. Teresa

Pugh was a captain for the Bulldogs this season. Said an opposing coach: "She was the engine that made them go. At times she seemed to be everywhere all at once. She distinguishes herself by her movement without the ball."

Reilly Fitzpatrick, Sr., Warrensburg-Latham/Maroa-Forsyth

As a defender, Fitzpatrick was key to the Cardinals’ run to the regional championship, and her play made her an all-state selection. She has been the anchor of the team’s defense for four seasons. An opposing coach said Fitzpatrick was “an awesome defender who stops so many attacks.”

Kalyn Prather, Jr., Monticello

As Monticello’s defensive captain, Prather was critical in the team’s improved defensive play. The Sages allowed 43 fewer goals this year and Prather was named an Illini Prairie Conference first-team selection.

Lainie Wolter, So., Mount Zion

Wolter’s strong defensive for the Braves was a result of her impressive speed and athleticism. She was also a first team All-Apollo selection.

MaKenzee Velchek, Sr., St. Teresa

Velchek was an all-sectional pick at goalie this season and kept opponents completely out the Bulldogs' goal 17 times. She will continue her soccer career at Elmhurst College next season.
