First team

Edgar Onate, Jr., F, St. Teresa

Onate improved his already impressive scoring numbers this season (50 goals, 15 assists) and led the Bulldogs to third-place finish at state in Class 1A. He is also the H&R Soccer Player of the Year for a second consecutive season.

Jake Ghere, Sr., F, Mattoon

Ghere led Mattoon to a 21-4-2 record this season and his 43 goals and 18 assists made him Mattoon's first player to earn All-State honors. His 121 career goals are also the most in Green Wave history.

Evan Dawson, Sr. F, Meridian

Dawson was the senior leader of a young Meridian team that featured 14 freshman and first-year players. He was the Hawks main offensive force, kicking in 27 goals and recording six assists.

Luichi Caceres, Sr., MF, St. Teresa

Caceres was the Bulldogs' second leading scorer with 15 goals and 18 assists this season and was key component in St. Teresa's run to state by scoring the game-winning goal against Earlsville in the Class 1A super-sectionals.

Marco Wegmann, Sr., F, MacArthur

Marco Wegmann, joined by brother Mattias on the H&R all-area first team, was the offensive leader for the Generals (12 goals and eight assists this season). He also scored the tying goal for MacArthur in its 2-2 tie with St. Teresa.

Cole Farley, Sr., M, Newton

As a midfielder, Farley was able to put up offensive numbers that some strikers are envious of. He put in 38 goals and 11 assists and is described by area coaches as an all-around great player who is a leader on and off the field.

Alex Lensink, Sr., D, Mattoon

Lensink is a first-team Apollo all conference selection and his defensive prowess is a strong compliment to the scoring power of teammate Jake Ghere. Lensink is described by opposing coaches as a player who understands the game well. He also scored seven goals as a defender.

Grant Cline, Sr., D, Charleston

Cline was the Trojans top defender and their most valuable player this season. Cline is described by opposing coaches as one of the best ball defenders in the area and a tough player.

Mattias Wegmann, Sr., CB, MacArthur

Players looking to score on MacArthur had to first get through Wegmann, who was a rock in the backfield for the Generals this season. A tough player who was always willing to sacrifice his body for the team, he also scored five goals and four assists last season.

Shawn Troike, Sr., GK, Warrensburg-Latham/Maroa-Forsyth

Troike is described by opposing coaches as the best technical goalkeeper in the area and his skills kept the Cardinals in many games this season. He is also featured regularly in club soccer all-star teams from Central Illinois.

Vince Koester, So., GK, St. Teresa

The Bulldogs goalkeeper turned up his play in the postseason. He didn't allow a goal in St. Teresa's sectional final (1-0 vicotry against Judah Christian), super-sectional (2-0 victory against Earlville) and the Class 1A third-place game (1-0 victory against Acero/Soto).
