DECATUR -- Davis Wegmann patrolled the pitch for four years with MacArthur but now he'll be standing on the sidelines for St. Teresa as he was named the boys soccer coach Friday.
In a statement release by St. Teresa athletic director Todd Vohland, Wegmann was appointed the head boys coach for the 2018 season.
The appointment creates an instant rivalry against his alma mater as Wegmann's father, Alex Wegmann, currently coaches the Generals. His brothers, Marco and Mattias Wegmann, will be seniors on the MacArthur soccer team next season.
After graduating from MacArthur, Davis went on to play soccer at Eastern Illinois University. After graduating from EIU, Davis played at the professional level in the United States and Germany.
Wegmann replaces Tom Cantwell who resigned at the end of the 2017 season.
Cantwell coached the boys team for five seasons, winning three regional titles — including this year's 18-2-1 team. He began coaching the St. Teresa girls in 2016 and won the H&R Girls Soccer Coach of the Year Award last year with a 17-3 record and the program's first regional title.
Davis Wegmann be meeting with the team next week to discuss summer programs.
