Emily Peterson, Meridian volleyball
Emily Peterson is a senior outside hitter for the Meridian volleyball team and she leads the Hawks in kills.
Meridian coach Alora Goodey can count on Peterson to set a great example for the team.
"Emily is one of the girls that everyone in the gym looks to, on the court, off the court and in practice. If we are struggling or if the drill is slow and we aren't getting the job done she will bring everyone in and refocus, establish what the issue is and how we can try to fix it," Goodey said. "On the court in a tight game she is going to get the ball. She's our go-to player and our setters know it and the whole team is kind of aware she will take control of the game, which is great for us."
Favorite varsity moment?
When we beat Central A&M this year (25-23, 29-27). They are a very good team and we usually don't beat them so this year we did. It was nice. It was our first conference game and it was very intense. We were down 5-15 in the second set and we came back to win 2-0.
Favorite sports team?
I really just follow other high school sports. I follow the football team. I don't play any other sports — just volleyball.
Definitely my favorite is Elf. It never gets old, it is funny every time. I watch it year round.
What is on your playlist?
Before a game it is definitely pump up rap music. I like Travis Scott and Post Malone. It gets me ready for the game. Any other time I listen to everything. It depends on my mood really. I like country, I like pop. For country music, Kane Brown is my favorite.
I can touch my tongue to my nose. That's about it.
Favorite subject in school?
I like science. I think it is very interesting.
I'm not for sure yet, I like criminal justice but I am also thinking about social work. I hope to continue on in volleyball, too, but I'm not sure yet.
"Pete" is my nickname. Whenever my Dad was in high school they called him "Pete" and I've taken it over, I guess.
