Two Macon County volleyball teams will be playing on Friday night for a trip to the state tournament.
In Class 1A, St. Teresa (27-10) will play Jacksonville Routt (22-15) at the Nokomis Supersectional. In Class 3A, Mount Zion (29-10) will play Belleville Althoff (35-4) at the Bethalto (Civic Memorial) Supersectional.
St. Teresa last made state in 2011 — the second of two straight trips under current Mount Zion coach Jay McAtee. The Bulldogs took fourth both seasons.
This year's St. Teresa team is led by Lexie Huck, Abby Robinson, Grace Buxton, Valerie Nutakor and DaeLin Switzer. The Bulldogs beat last year's state runner-up Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in three sets in the sectional finals.
This is Mount Zion's second straight trip to supersectionals — the first supers in school history. Last year, the Braves lost 25-10, 25-21 to Belleville Althoff at last year's Salem Supersectional.
The Braves are led by Ali Vaughn, Karlee McAtee, Dayna Kennedy, Reiley Drake and Emily Cole. Mount Zion beat Taylorville, which had two wins over the Braves in the regular season, in three sets at sectionals.
If St. Teresa wins, it will play the winner of the Lexington Sectional game between Flanagan-Cornell and Hartsburg-Emden at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal.
If Mount Zion wins, it will play the winner of the Elmhurst (Timothy Christian) Sectional game between Chicago Latin and Wheaton St. Francis at around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 at Redbird Arena.
