CHAMPAIGN — Three domestic battery charges against Illinois redshirt freshman football player Lere Oladipo were dismissed on Tuesday.
Mary Schnek of the Champaign News-Gazette reported that Assistant State's Attorney Brooke Hinman said the charges were dismissed after the alleged victim and a witness who called police changed their story.
Oladipo was arrested by University of Illinois police on Oct. 28.
Oladipo was suspended from the football team following his arrest. He is a 6-foot-3, 275-pound redshirt freshman from Huntley. He's played in four games this season with seven tackles.
Illinois team spokesperson Kent Brown said Oladipo's status remains unchanged. Both head coach Lovie Smith and athletic director Josh Whitman are scheduled to be in New York for the Hall of Fame event for Illini great Dana Howard. With no games or practices coming up, they'll have a chance to discuss his future soon, Brown said.
