CHAMPAIGN — With the early signing period one day away, the Illinois men's basketball team landed its first verbal commitment for the 2019 class.

Four-star center Antwan January, from Santa Monica, Calif. announced his intention to play at the University of Illinois via Twitter on Tuesday night prior to the game against Georgetown.

"COMMITTED. Thank you to everyone that’s been in my corner. I would like to give thanks to God, my Mom @lovebabe2677, my brother/trainer @JuliusVElite, and all the coaches that recruited me. It’s been a journey & I’m not done yet. #GoIllini," January wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

Jaunary is a 6-foot-11, 240-pound center who had offers from New Mexico, Washington State, Boise State, DePaul, Kansas State and Nevada, among others. He's considered a four-star center by the two major recruiting classes — 247Sports.com and Rivals. ESPN has him at a three-star recruit.
