CHAMPAIGN — Illinois almost overcame their youth and overcame being without top scorer Trent Frazier, but the Hoyas had enough to put Illinois away 88-80 on Tuesday night at the State Farm Center.
James Akinjo led Georgetown with 19 points and freshman Ayo Dosunmu led all scorers with 25 points for Illinois.
The Illini play on Monday against Gonzaga at the Maui Invitational.

The Hoyas are shooting 51.6 percent from the field in the second half, and are outrebounding the Illini 20-7 in the second half.
Guards powering through

Georgetown opened the second half hot, on a 6-1 run, but a 7-2 run has Illinois back within two points, 49-47, with 15:40 left in the game.
Freshman Giorgi Bezhanishvili started the run with a 3-pointer, followed by a reverse layup from Ayo Dosunmu and a Kipper Nichols basket in transition off a nice feed from Andres Feliz.
