Illini Live - Basketball

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Another double-digit deficit, another haymaker thrown by Illinois to get within striking distance, and another rally that fell short.

The Illini trailed by as many as 15 points in the second half, climbed back to within four before losing 73-65 to No. 21-ranked Indiana.

Ayo Dosunmu led Illinois with 20 points and Giorgi Bezhanishvili had 18 for the Illini (4-10).

Indiana freshman Romeo Langford has 28 points.

Indiana in control

There's thou Romeo

Highly-touted freshman Romeo Langford is taking over the game against Illinois. He has all eight of Indiana's points after halftime to help the Hoosiers to a 40-32 lead voer the Illini with 15:57 left in the game.

Illinois has five total shot-clock violations in the game.

Ugly close for Illinois

Illinois led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but a tip-in by Indiana's Justin Smith as the first half ended tied the game 32-all entering the break.

Giorgi Bezhanishvili has 10 points to lead all scorers for the Illini and Ayo Dosunmu has eight points. Trent Frazier, who picked up two fouls in the first half, played eight minutes with two points.

Romeo Langford and Juwan Morgan each have nine points for the Hoosiers.

Illini working on both fronds

Indiana is shooting 33 percent and the Illini are on a 12-2 run over the last 6 minutes, 25 seconds to hold a 25-15 lead over the nationally-ranked Hoosiers with 7:52 left in the first half.

Offensively, the Illini are shooting 58 percent and eight different players have scored, led by Giorgi Bezhanishvili's six.

De La Rosa with important possessions

After missing Saturday's game with an "aggravated knee," Illinois graduate transfer Adonis De La Rosa made a quick impact off the bench against Indiana. He has two rebounds and two points early on with one rebound that was passed to Ayo Dosunmu, who kicked it ahead to Andres Feliz in transition who converted an old-fashioned three-point play.

Illinois is up 20-13 on Indiana with 11:48 left in the first half.

Strong offensive start for Illinois

For whatever was plaguing the Illini in previous games on offense, it doesn't appear to have made the trip to Indiana.

Illinois leads Indiana 15-13 with 13:58 left in the first half. Freshman Giorgi Bezhanishvili has been an impact early on with six quick points. The Illini are shooting 64 percent.

Indiana, though, is shooting 50 percent. Juwan Morgan has five for the Hoosiers and freshman Romeo Langford has four.
