Samba Kane will enter the NCAA transfer portal, per reports.

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois center Samba Kane has entered the transfer portal.

The sophomore center averaged 1.5 points per game in 18 games last season. The news was first reported by Jeff Borzello of ESPN, and was later confirmed by an Illinois team spokesperson.

Kane, a 7-foot sophomore from Dakar, Senegal, had a career high eight points against UNLV last season. He becomes the second Illini basketball player to announce his intent to transfer, joining Anthony Higgs.

Illinois has added front court players in freshmen Kofi Cockburn, Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk and Bernard Kouma, the latter is not on campus yet.

The Illini have two open scholarships remaining.
