KENOSHA -- The Millikin men's basketball team lost at Carthage College 85-70 on Saturday.
Millikin (10-11, 3-8 CCIW) stayed close to the Red Men over the first 12 minute of the game trailing 24-22 with 7:37 left in the first half.
Carthage then went on an 11-0 run to take control of the game.
Carthage led 44-26 at the half and dominated the first 10 minutes of the second half to put the game away.
The story of the game was the three-point shooting of Carthage's Jordan Thomas.
Jordan scored 40 points in the game making a school record 11 3-pointers.
Thomas was 11-for-13 from beyond the arc becoming the 10th player in school history to score 40 or more points in a game.
Millikin shot 45.5 percent from the field and went 5-for-13 (38.5 percent) from 3-point range.
Carthage (12-8, 7-4) shot 49 percent from the field, but the difference in the game was the Red Men's 3-point shooting making 15-of-23 (65 percent). Millikin won the rebounding battle 33-31.
Millikin's top scorer was Elijah Henry with 21 points and eight rebounds.
Zach Fisher had nine points followed by DaVante Harrell with eight points and four assists.
In addition to Thomas' 40-point performance, Carthage got 17 points and eight rebounds from Brad Kruse.
The loss continues Millikin's trouble of winning in Kenosha. The Big Blue have not won at Carthage since 1994.
Carthage 78, Millikin 60
KENOSHA -- The Millikin women's basketball team lost at Carthage College 78-60 Saturday on the road.
Millikin (5-15, 0-11 CCIW) hit only 36 percent of its shots while Carthage hit 42.5 percent.
The Lady Reds (15-6, 8-4 CCIW) had 23 more shots than Millikin thanks to a 41-28 rebounding advantage and 22 Big Blue turnovers. Carthage had 14 miscues.
The Lady Reds led 41-27 at halftime.
"I thought all the way up and down the bench we played hard and had contributions from a lot of people," Millikin coach Lori Kerans said. "We have spurts where we have trouble with baskets and there are too many turnovers."
Haley Toohill had nine points and five rebounds for Millikin. Emily Schultz added nine points while Yanni Saddler had eight points and five rebounds.
Lauren Moses had a team-high nine rebounds and three points.
Morgan Vukovich led Carthage with 17 points.
During Millikin's next home game on Wednesday, Feb. 7 vs. North Central, the team will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day. There will be free admission for any female athlete of any age, any sport.
