DECATUR -- The Millikin men's basketball team won its second straight game defeating North Park University 80-63 on Wednesday at home in the Griswold Center.

Millikin (10-10, 3-8 CCIW) lead 40-33 at halftime and the Big Blue never trailed in the second half with its largest lead of the game being 18 points.

Millikin shot 65 percent from the field including going 7 for 16 (44 percent) from 3-point range.

North Park (4-5, 1-10 CCIW) shot 43 percent and hit on 9 for 24 (37.5 percent) from beyond the arc. Millikin won the rebounding battle 28-23.

Zach Fisher led the Big Blue with 23 points, four rebounds and two assists. Michael Beaty had 14 points, three assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Elijah Henry had 13 points and a team-high six rebounds. DaVante Harrell had eight points, six assists and four rebounds.

Colin Lake led North Park with 22 points. Matt Szuba put in 17.

Millikin will travel to Carthage College on Saturday.


Elmhurst 55, Millikin 53

ELMHURST -- The fourth quarter rally made by the Millikin women's basketball team fell two points short as the Big Blue lost at Elmhurst College 55-53 on Wednesday.

Millikin led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bluejays rallied to build a 26-20 advantage at halftime.

Both teams scored 21 points in the third quarter leaving Elmhurst with a 47-41 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Big Blue (5-14, 0-10 CCIW) stayed close and cut the lead to four points on a Yanni Saddler layup making it 55-51 with 3:06 left in the game.

After an Elmhurst turnover, Saddler scored again to cut the lead to 55-53 with 2:27 remaining.

The Big Blue only got off one more shot in the final two minutes committing two turnovers and leaving its rally two points shy of tying the game.

"I'm really proud of the way they battled all they way to the end," Millikin coach Lori Kearns said. "We made all the right plays and decisions. Overall, we came to their house and battled them to the end. When we had a decision to make, there was no quit in the Blue Blue team tonight."

Millikin was 6-10 at the free throw line. Elmhurst (12-8, 8-3 CCIW) shot 36 percent and made only 1 of 12 from 3-point range.

The Bluejays went 12 of 15 from the free throw line. Elmhurst won the rebounding battle 38-33.

Emily Schultz led Millikin with 12 points and six rebounds. Haley Toohill added 10 points.

Saddler finished the night with eight points and five rebounds.

Lisa Logan led Elmhurst with 16 points.
