Ranked softball teams will flock to central Illinois from Thursday to Saturday.
Seven teams ranked in the latest Illinois Coaches Association polls take the field at the 22nd Annual Washington Panther Classic and 2019 Margie Wright Showcase hosted by Metamora. The Panther Classic runs Thursday and Friday, while Metamora's event spans Friday and Saturday.
Washington features seven of its eight-team field mentioned in the latest polls. No. 2 Pontiac is the highest-rated team among Class 3A schools, followed by No. 12 Maple Park Kaneland. In Class 4A, Barrington is ranked No. 14, while Brimfield/Elmwood is sixth in Class 2A. Washington and Geneseo both are receiving votes in the latest 3A poll. Williamsville also is receiving votes in 2A. Galesburg is also in the tournament, which play its title game at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
A trio of 3A ranked teams highlight the six-team Margie Wright tournament, led by No. 5 Normal U-High. Eighth-ranked Charleston and No. 17 East Peoria round out the field that also includes Farmington, Canton and the hosts.
