First team

P — Kacey Starwalt, Sr., Mattoon

The Butler-bound Starwalt earned her third first-team nod by going 22-2 on the mound with a 0.57 ERA and 254 strikeouts in 159 innings. But she saved her best for the postseason, allowing no earned runs in 34 innings pitched. She also batted .402 with 25 RBIs.

P — Grace Moll, Sr., Shelbyville

Moll completed one of the greatest careers in area softball history with her fourth straight first-team selection. Headed to Arkansas next year, Moll went 12-4 with a save and a 0.99 ERA, striking out an astonishing 212 batters in 106 innings. At the plate, Moll hit .506 with 16 extra-base hits.

C — Allie Hislope, Jr., Monticello

The area’s most dangerous slugger, Hislope played in just 21 games because of injury but put up numbers that would have been impressive in 41 games. She batted .542 with 11 home runs, 38 RBIs and a slugging percentage of 1.254. She holds the school record for home runs in a season and career at Monticello.

IF — Madison Boone, So., Shelbyville

Boone was the primary run-producer for one of the area’s most prolific offenses. She hit .380, with 18 of her 35 hits going for extra bases — eight doubles, two triples and eight home runs. Shelbyville’s shortstop also drove in 33 and scored 31 runs.

IF — Riley Phipps, Jr., Mattoon

Phipps anchored the middle of Mattoon’s powerful lineup. The third baseman hit .474, smashing a team-high 21 extra-base hits (12 doubles, five triples and three home runs) and driving in a team-leading 40 runs. She also contributed 31 runs scored.

IF — Cara Edwards, Sr., Arcola

Edwards was the offensive firepower behind Arcola’s run to the sectional finals. The senior third baseman led the team in batting average (.463), home runs (six) and RBIs (37), while also scoring 28 runs.

IF — Kyleigh Decker, Fr., Casey-Westfield

One of three freshman on the first team, Decker was Casey’s top hitter with a 1.622 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage). She led the team in batting average (.530), home runs (nine), RBIs (44) and total extra-base hits (19), while tying for the team lead in runs scored (37).

OF — Kasey Considine, So., Mattoon

Mattoon’s No. 3 hitter had the team’s highest on-base percentage (.520) and batting average (.477), helping lead the Green Wave to a sectional title. Considine tied for the team lead in runs scored (35) to go along with 13 doubles, three triples, four homers and 31 RBIs.

OF — Conner Cutright, Fr., Casey-Westfield

Cutright was a major part of bringing Casey softball back to prominence this year with a statement-making freshman season. She led the team in hits (49) while batting .527 with 25 RBIs and 27 runs scored to go along with 16 extra-base hits.

OF — Morgan Swingler, Sr., Newton

Swingler is one of three repeat first-teamers, batting over .550 (.553) for the second straight year. Of her 47 hits, 23 went for extra bases (13 doubles, six triples and four home runs) and she notched an OPS of 1.551 while playing a brilliant centerfield.

Util — Kadi Borries, Fr., Teutopolis

Few freshman in any sport on any team in the state had a bigger impact for their team this year than Borries, who helped lead the Wooden Shoes to a sectional title. She notched an OPS of 1.666, batting .478 with 14 home runs, 37 RBIs and 36 runs scored. She also went 13-3 on the mound with a 1.65 ERA.
