DECATUR — Decatur resident Dafeny Coronado brought her two elementary school-aged sons to a baby shower to show support for the neighborhood event.
Adrian Lawrence, 5, center, and his brother Ky'rie, 7, left, was brought to the Community Baby Shower by their mother Dafeny Coronado where they found free books.

UNDATED: In 1927, the congregation of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at West Wood and Edward streets, decided to build a new church to replace the above church, which was built in 1880. Holy Family Catholic Church
1967: The Holy Family Catholic Church rectory is about to begin the third phase of its building program. The convent, to be built soon, will accommodate eight nuns. The Rev. Spiritualist Church of Truth
1951: Decatur’s First Spiritualist Church of Truth was established in 1934. The first meetings were held in homes and then in various rented halls. The present building at 993 N. Edward St., a converted store, was bought in 1945. (H&R file photo)
St. James Catholic School sisters’ home
1950: With all its furnishings intact, the St. James Catholic School sisters’ home will be moved down East Clay Street 150 feet to a lot on the other side of the rectory. The clocks were left on the walls, but the 12 sisters have gone to their mother house in Milwaukee, Wis., until the convent is settled on its new foundation. The moving is expected to take about 10 days while workers complete the basement. Plans have been submitted to a St. James Catholic Church committee for a new rectory to go up on the vacant site. St. Patrick Catholic Church parish house
1948: Preliminary work began toward the dismantling project for the parish house of St. Patrick Catholic Church. The house, which contains living quarters and offices for priests, is next door to the church on East Eldorado Street. Offices have been moved to St. Patrick School and the priests are living at the St. Nicholas Hotel. A new parish hall will be erected on the site. (H&R file photo)
Our Lady of Lourdes’ groundbreaking
1978: Just about everyone got into the act at Our Lady of Lourdes’ groundbreaking ceremony. Construction of the church is expected to start soon. Plans call for a 750-seat church and rectory. The congregation has been meeting in the school gym. (H&R file photo)
