The Parkland College Foundation presented its inaugural Community Impact Award and Carl R. Meyer Philanthropic Leadership Award at the President’s Circle Recognition Breakfast on Thursday, September 10, at the Champaign Country Club.
The Rotary Club of Champaign received the Parkland College Foundation’s Community Impact Award, which recognizes an organization whose partnership has made a significant and lasting contribution to Parkland College and the students it serves.
Since 1986, the Rotary Club of Champaign has provided over $165,000 in scholarship support for Parkland students. Last year, the club increased their scholarship support from $5,000 to $20,000 annually.
Several academic areas of the college are recognized as part of their scholarship. These include Technology and Agriculture in honor of Lin Warfel; Business and Computer Science in memory of Carl Meyer; and Humanities and Social Services in honor of Zelema Harris.

"The partnership brings together two organizations with a shared commitment to education, service, and strengthening our community," said Christopher Randles, former president and executive secretary, Champaign Rotary Club. "This award is especially meaningful because it recognizes what we believe is at the heart of Rotary’s mission. The 2026–2027 Rotary year mission statement is 'Create Lasting Impact.' What better way to create lasting impact than to invest in today’s students—helping them pursue an education, fulfill their career and life goals, and ultimately carry that same commitment forward to the next generation."
Greg Lykins received the Carl R. Meyer Philanthropic Leadership Award, which recognizes an individual whose commitment to Parkland College reflects the spirit and legacy of Carl Meyer, former executive director of the Parkland College Foundation. Meyer championed a culture of philanthropy, transforming the college through scholarship support, innovative partnerships, capital projects, and entrepreneurial initiatives. His leadership demonstrated how private support can enhance educational excellence and strengthen the community Parkland serves.
While heavily involved in volunteer fundraising for Parkland College, Lykins served as the lead gift committee chair for the Parkland College Foundation's Major Gifts Campaign that launched in 2001.
"Greg's commitment to Parkland extends well beyond his own generosity," Foundation Executive Director Danielle Wilberg said. "For more than two decades, he has opened doors, built relationships, and helped connect the college with resources that create opportunities for our students. His longstanding commitment, including his work alongside Carl Meyer, makes him a fitting inaugural recipient of this award."
Lykins has remained an advocate for Parkland for more than two decades, helping secure, inspire, and facilitate private support for students and programs. A former chairman of Busey Trust Company and vice chairman of First Busey Corporation, he and his family have established two endowed scholarships for both the arts and nursing programs. Continuing his advocacy, Lykins is still responsible for several large gifts that come to Parkland College annually.
The President’s Circle recognizes and honors donors for their generosity to the Parkland College Foundation.
"The President's Circle reflects the strong connection between Parkland College and those who believe in our students and our mission," Parkland President Pam Lau said. "Their sustained support helps create opportunities for our students and strengthens the college's ability to serve our community."
