Normal, Ill. – June 15, 2026 – The Town of Normal contracted with Everbridge to relaunch Notify Normal, the Town’s free mass communication system which sends messages via text, email and phone calls about emergencies, road closures, event information and more.
The Town deactivated Notify Normal in late 2025 after systems at the previous platform provider (CodeRED) were compromised.
Notify Normal allows residents and community members to be notified by the Town of Normal in the event of emergency situations and receive information about community events and Town of Normal services.
“We know residents appreciate Notify Normal messages,” says Town of Normal City Manager Pamela Reece. “The system alerts users in emergencies. Our experience suggests users also appreciate messages about road closures and event information. We’re excited to reactivate Notify Normal to provide another avenue for sharing information with residents.”
Notify Normal allows users to decide how they want to be notified – text, email or phone calls – and what they want to be notified about.
Enrolling is easy
To enroll, community members visit the Notify Normal Member Portal or text “Normal” to 888777 to have the link to the member portal sent to a mobile device. (The system provides two auto-reply SMS messages. To enroll, click the URL link in the second message.)
Customized experience
In addition to emergency alerts, users can choose the type of notifications they wish to receive:
Events - information about community events such as Make Music Normal, Sweet Corn Circus, Day of Play, etc.
Parks - status of aquatic centers, Parks & Recreation programming, Constitution Trail, parks, etc.
Services - status of Town of Normal services such as hydrant flushing, boil orders, garbage pickup, snow removal, etc.
Streets - parking bans, road conditions or closures, etc.
Robust alerting
Notify Normal can also deliver emergency alerts via the nation’s Integrated Public Alert Warning System (IPAWS), warning the public – whether they are enrolled – of emergencies that pose an imminent threat to life and/or personal safety through mobile devices located within the boundary limits of the Town of Normal.
