When it is completed, the cornfield mural along 22nd Street will consist of approximately 36,700 cups.
These special cups are used to create the mural design.
Marvin Sowers helps install the cups into one of the 42 panels that will make up the cornfield mural.

Steel work
1990: Only a small amount of steel work is being done on the new Staley viaduct. Construction has virtually stopped because the contractor, Traylor Brothers Construction Co., and the state haven't agreed on a proposed $2.9 million price increase.

Construction work
1989: Construction work continues on the 22nd St. viaduct after concrete pouring began May 16 on the first 20 segments of the northbound lanes. The segments will be in place by the end of Sept. The completion deadline is set for Sept. 1991.
Rush hour
1963: Nobody rushes during the rush hour at this intersection of 22nd St. and Eldorado St., at the foot of the Staley viaduct. City officials recommend widening the streets and banning left turns. The view is from the Staley Administration Building.

Replacement project
1988: A welder works on an I-beam at the Staley viaduct replacement project. When completed, four lanes of N. 22nd St. will carry traffic over the Norfolk & Western Railway tracks. The present viaduct has only two lanes. Traylor Brothers Inc. of Evansville, Ind., hopes to complete the $28.9 million project in the spring of 1991.
