EFFINGHAM, Ill. – Effingham County Emergency Management Agency (ECEMA), in collaboration with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln, will hold a special storm spotter training class on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Effingham County Emergency Operations Center, 311 Miracle Avenue, Effingham.
During the regular storm spotter training, participants will learn the characteristics of severe thunderstorms and other associated threats, severe weather-relevant cloud formations and weather safety practices.
Participants will also learn how they can be a National Weather Service SKYWARN volunteer and help keep the community safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather directly to the National Weather Service.
In addition to the usual storm spotter training, the NWS is providing a winter storm outlook with safety information, and the agency will also explain ways it provides incident support to first responders in Effingham County.
The class is appropriate for all ages. Ages 10 and up will likely get the most out of the training.
Pre-registration is not required.
