Nominations are once again being accepted for the City’s long-running Green Thumb Awards program, which celebrates eye-catching displays in gardens, yards and landscaped areas in Edwardsville. This year, the committee behind the awards is encouraging entries that incorporate red, white and blue hues in recognition of America’s 250th birthday.
For more than 25 years, the Green Thumb Awards have offered an opportunity to put a spotlight on dazzling yards, gorgeous gardens and artfully landscaped spots at a residence, business, civic site or other locations. The program is led by the Edwardsville Environmental Commission, formerly known as the Edwardsville Beautification and Tree Program. The commission’s mission includes projects that further the City’s goals in regard to the environment, sustainability and beautification.
Nomination categories include residential, neighborhood (or block or subdivision), commercial and civic settings within the corporate limits of the City of Edwardsville. Self-nominations are welcome and encouraged. Green Thumb recipients are determined by the commission members based on the nominations and eligibility criteria. The deadline to submit a nomination is Saturday, June 20. Nominations can be submitted online, by mail or in person at City Hall during regular business hours.
