Bloomington, IL… As McLean County Health Department’s All Our Kids Early Childhood Network (AOK) continues celebrating more than 25 years of supporting local families, the organization is inviting area fathers and caregivers to gather for a special evening of connection, conversation, and community during Men’s Health Month.
The Dad’s Café, themed “Dads Connecting: Building Community One Conversation at a Time,” will take place Friday, June 26 from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at the McLean County Health Department (MCHD), 200 W. Front Street in downtown Bloomington.
This free event is designed to create a welcoming and supportive space where dads can openly discuss the joys and challenges of raising children, balancing family responsibilities, and building healthy relationships. The goal is to encourage honest conversations that help fathers – or those in a father role – feel supported, valued, and connected to one another. It also provides an opportunity to learn about, and connect with, community resources.
The event highlights the important role fathers play in family and community health. Children are also welcome. Dinner and children’s programming will be provided during this free event with advance reservations*.
Research consistently shows that strong social connections and supportive parenting networks contribute to better mental health, healthier families, and improved outcomes for children. Events like Parent Cafés give caregivers opportunities to share experiences, reduce stress, and strengthen community ties in a relaxed, judgment-free environment.
The Dad’s Café is part of the ongoing Parent Café series sponsored by MCHD’s AOK Network, a program that works to ensure children from birth to age five and their families have access to the support and resources they need to thrive.
“AOK believes parents and caregivers are one of the greatest strengths in our community,” said Maureen Sollars, MCHD AOK Coordinator, who has been with the program since its inception. “Parent Cafés create opportunities for families to connect, support one another, and realize they are not alone in the challenges and rewards of raising children. We are especially excited to create a space focused on fathers and the important role they play in the healthy development of children and families.”
The event is co-sponsored by the McLean County Reentry Council.
